We are so fortunate at Claddagh National School to have the amazing resource of having a full-time Home School Community Liaison (HSCL) named Yvonne Fahy In addition to being an internationally renowned musician with Trad on the Prom and recording artist, she is our own dynamo who has organised many varied activities to engage with the parents/carers and the community at large.
Here are just some of the activities the families in Claddagh National School have been involved in this year:
A weekly 5 K run on a Wednesday Morning at the Westside Running track. This run has been “led” by HSCL’s and has now since been taken over by the Parents themselves. Gary Thornton did a running programme for them to get them to a 5K level of fitness , and with that, they completed their first 5K at Christmas on the Prom in aid of Charity.
They are now preparing to participate in the “Darkness into Light” run.
The Parents participated in a 7 week “Keep Fit” programme on a Tuesday evening in the school up to Christmas. These classes were held at 7pm and were well attended. The Parents involved have since continued to attend classes that the intstructor is facilitating in her own gym.

A 10 week Mindfulness programme for Parents was organised and took place in the Westside Library during the Autumn term. Activities included:
Mini makeovers, Hair and Nail care, Learning to take care of your Heart, an introduction to Homeopathy, Looking after your Mental Health and Stress Management, Fun and Fitness, Cosmetic Nutrition and Introductory Yoga.

A Sports Nutritionist facilitated a session with the Parents on Wednesday, Feb 24th detailing diet, what your body needs when training, importance of hydration, Pre-work out meals, post work out meals.
The parents found this session very informative and helpful!
